Urbana is now accepting public and private-non profit agencies' applications for youth grant funding. The City of Urbana now has a total of $30,000 for youth services grants. Agencies are welcome to apply.

The funding will focus on four service areas: health, wellness, opportunity, and violence prevention. The grant period is from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. Children and youth aged from Pre-K to 22 years old from low-income families in Urbana can benefit from this program.

City official said the program has been successful in the past year.

"We've heard a lot from the different agencies that we fund in the community," said Bearden J. Belcher, a Community Development Coordinator at the City of Urbana. "We've been able to hear their success stories and really see how they've been able to use this grant money to expand their services and help more kids in the community."

He said the funding help the agencies to expand their services and grow their program. The ultimate goal is to help students. This year, the anticipated grant range is $10,000-$50,000. Successful applicants will get funding depending on their needs.

Bearden said agencies across Champaign County could apply for this program, but they would only specifically support programs targeting Urbana students. Still, they encourage more agencies to apply to this program," We supported ten agencies last year. This year we have more funding. We're hoping that maybe we can kind of expand that and help more agencies out."

The application deadline is March 31 at 4:00 pm. Applicants are welcome to attend assistance workshops. The first workshop will be held on February 10 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in The Urbana Free Library. Another workshop will be on March 14 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Urbana City Council Chambers.
