License plates like "SUCKER" or "KISSASH" will not be seen on the roads any time soon. The Illinois Secretary of State's office shared some of the proposals they received for vanity plates during 2022. 383 requests were denied, according to a statement released last Monday. Many of these requests were turned down due to "tawdry, lewd or offensive nature or because they were difficult to read." Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said his office keeps a list of the rejected requests, and as of the statement's release this list contains over 7,000 unacceptable plates. However, this pales in comparison to the total of 922,417 total customized plates granted to Illinoisans.
